On the way down to Penzance I stopped at Davidstow Airfield where there was a Buff-breasted Sandpiper and a large film crew in the process of shooting scenes for a film. Someone told me the film is ” The Boy who wanted to be King “.
Once I arrived on St Mary’s I immediately got on another boat to St Agnes and after a couple of hours wait managed to see the Cedar Waxwing. Only the second one I have seen after seeing one in Nottingham in 1996.

A moulting adult White-winged Black Tern was showing very well this morning at Willow Farm Lake, Tyttenhanger Gravel Pits near London Colney.

Best birds seen on this trip were two Lammergeier near Rothorn. There were Yellow-legged Gulls at Lake Geneva, lots of Alpine Chough around the Gornegrat, Nutcrackers, Citril Finch and Crag Martin around Zermatt and Alpine Swifts in Lausanne.

A great holiday with my kids in Switzerland. Two nights in Geneva, three nights in Zermatt and a night in Lausanne. Great walks, good weather and nice food. Great place to go.

Spent the morning in Kent, first at Cliffe Pools RSPB reserve and then Oare Marshes near Faversham. There was a very distant Marsh Sandpiper at Cliffe as well as 6 Black-winged Stilts. An adult Bonaparte’s Gull was at Oare Marshes, where there were also a couple of Spotted Redshank and Turtle Doves. Here are a few pictures of the Bonaparte’s Gull, the first one shows it with a Black-headed Gull. The Bonaparte’s is the one with the black head and the Black-headed Gull has a brown head.

Went for a walk around College Lake. There was a male Common Scoter on the main lake and a Garden Warbler was showing well in the carpark.

Lots of planes, don’t know what they all were but there were some Spitfires and the Red Arrows were really spectacular.
