The annual trip to Scotland started with 3 nights in Aviemore. We then drove to Ullapool where we stayed the night before getting the ferry to Stornaway on the Isle of Lewis. We stayed here for two nights before getting the ferry to Skye from Tarbert on Harris.

The Lurkers at the Hat Factory Luton on 24/3/2017 about 40 years on from when I first saw them play at The Royal in Luton. I don’t think any of the current band were in the original group but not a bad night.

There were 2 or 3 Otters along the river early morning at Santon Downham. One came very close to me but was unfortunately obscured by reeds. There were several Woodlark nearby.

The Bluethroat showed very well at Willow Tree Fen LWT. A Great White Egret and Long-tailed Duck were also at nearby Deeping High Bank.

A great victory 2-0 against Cambridge, the double rainbow above the ground must have been an omen. Then on to Kentish Town to see The Fall. First time I have seen them so it was quite interesting to watch the behaviour of the front man Mark E Smith as he shuffled around stage fiddling with amps and constantly looking for one of his many microphones. The music was good, the vocals not so good!

Having spent last weekend in Cornwall hoping to see the Pacific Diver that has been wintering there for the last 10 years in Mount’s Bay and failing it was nice to get another chance to see one today in Northumberland. A long drive but a successful outcome seeing the bird on Ladyburn Lake, Druridge Country Park. Nice fish and chips in Amble as well.
