A trip to Fetlar to see the breeding Red-necked Phalaropes. From mainland Shetland you need to get a ferry to Yell and then another ferry to Fetlar. I saw two Phalaropes on Loch of Funzie almost straight away, I took a few photos and went off to the hide at the Mires of Funzie expecting to see more and get better pictures. I never saw another one!! They are not always easy to see here. There were also 3 Red-throated Divers on Loch of Funzie.

Hermaness National Nature Reserve on the island of Unst, one of the Shetland Isles is great place to photograph Great Skuas. Bonxie is the Shetland name for these birds.

22/5/2016 I was in the New Forest when news broke of a Stilt Sandpiper at Pennington Marshes near Lymington. It did not take me long to get there as it was only 12 miles away.

An after work trip to Little Paxton gravel pits for a Great Reed Warbler. A bit too far away for any good pictures.
1 4/5/2016 First visit of the day was to Abberton Reservoir where I saw a Franklins Gull and a very showy Nightingale. The second destination was Vange Marsh RSPB, Basildon where I saw a female Red-footed Falcon.

14/5/2016 An early morning visit to Frampton RSPB in Lincs paid off as the Broad-billed Sandpiper was only seen for a fairly limited time in the morning before flying off and not being seen again.
30/4/2016 – 7/5/2016 3 nights in Aviemore, one night on the Isle of Skye and 3 nights on North Uist.
A fantastic reserve on North Uist one of the Western Isles off the west coast of Scotland.
