Whilst shopping in St Albans we had a look at the cathedral. Quite an impressive building.

Kensworth Quarry
11/01/2015 Went for a long walk on Sunday. From the golf course,up to Dunstable Downs, down Isle of Wight Lane and then on to Kensworth via various footpaths some of which I have never been on before. Walked around most of the perimeter of Kensworth Quarry which is a lot bigger than I had thought. A four hour walk. Best birds seen were several Red Kites, Buzzards, 2 displaying Raven, a flock of Golden Plover, Yellowhammers and a Green Woodpecker.
Dunstable Downs
As I can’t drive at the moment, I decided to go for a walk up Dunstable Downs the highest point in Bedfordshire being located here at 797 feet above sea level. The London Gliding Club is located at the base of the Downs. Dunstable Downs are part of the Chiltern Hills. There is a visitor centre located here run by the National Trust. I walked over the Golf Course and along the top of the Downs to Whipsnade Zoo, down to the bottom of the Downs and finally back up towards the visitor centre. A nice couple of hours on what was a cold frosty day.

Another away game and another defeat unfortunately. It was a good weekend however as we stayed a couple of nights. Most of the 700+ Luton supporters seemed to visit the Eric Morecambe statue and there were quite a few dressed up as Eric. The statue had only been put up again two days before the match as someone had tried to steal it by sawing through one of its legs.

Pelagic 14/10/2014
I went on a pelagic trip today aboard Sapphire. We went about 5 or 6 miles South of St Mary’s. It was quite slow going most of the day as it was quite calm with very little wind. We did have a few sightings of Storm Petrels whilst drifting here. Lines were put out to try and catch some Blue Shark but were unsuccessful. Later we went to the Poll Bank where there was a fleeting sighting of a Minke Whale and some Common Dolphin. We then headed back to St Mary’s via the Western Rocks. We also saw one Manx Shearwater, one Arctic Skua, one Bonxie, a couple of Squid and a Snipe that tried to land on the boat.
